Director of DEIAB

GFBLA Board of Directors

The  Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging (DEIAB) will serve as an important advisor and key leader in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment across all aspects of GFBLA. This role will work closely with members, staff, the board of directors, and the broader GFBLA community to cultivate a culture rooted in support, representation, and continuous learning. The DEIAB Director will guide efforts and propose initiatives that align with GFBLA’s mission to promote and celebrate diversity among musicians throughout Southern California. Decisions about implementation and organizational direction will be made collectively among staff, members, and the board. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop a comprehensive DEIAB strategy aligned with the mission of GFBLA.
  • Provide  guidance in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion to staff and leadership. 
  • Partner with GFBLA leadership to integrate DEIAB principles into organization policies and culture. 
  • Conduct regular assessments of GFBLA’s cultural climate and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Lead efforts to collect member feedback through surveys or focus groups. 
  • Organize ongoing DEIAB workshops and trainings for members, volunteers, and leadership teams. 
  • Establish safe and trusted channels of communication for reporting instances of bias or unwanted behavior. 
  • Collaborate with the Directors of Membership to create new member onboarding community agreements. 
  • Advise the Artistic Staff on concert themes, repertoire, guests artists and groups to ensure representation. 
  • Work with production and operations staff to ensure rehearsals, performances, and social events are physically accessible and accommodations are provided and communicated to members and audiences. 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Commitment to building an organizational culture rooted in diversity and inclusion 
  • Understanding of GFBLA’s mission and core values
  • Deep understanding of DEIAB principles and their application within the LGBTQ+ and arts communities
  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of the needs of a diverse community and ability to work effectively with members, staff, and volunteers of all backgrounds 
  • Experiencing leading educational workshops is preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining high quality work
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and creative critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral
